The ICEA Department has the overall objective of becoming a center of excellence for research, training and knowledge transfer in the sector of Smart Engineering Infrastructures (SEI), understood as infrastructural solutions that make the natural environment sustainable and safe and built because they were designed with innovative and intelligent systems which, by ensuring the detection and continuous management of information, optimize their functionality.
The project aims to contribute to the development of research lines and the training of engineers with specific skills for an increasingly mature implementation of SEI solutions.
In fact, SEI solutions have undoubted advantages compared to traditional infrastructures: reduced financial costs thanks to predictive updates instead of traditional scheduled maintenance; agile uses in response to environmental or social changes, even rapid ones, generated by climate change or incorrect anthropic behaviour; efficient safety and warning systems.
