SMART LIVING – 2024 Projects

Smart Engineering Infrastructures

Projects in the year 2024:

Actions A3.1 (installations for the LIVEABILITY AND USABILITY of classrooms and SENSOR INTEGRATION – IoT) and A3.2 (interventions for MULTIFUNCTIONAL AREAS) were included within a broader project on the optimization of the internal and external spaces of the Department. The choice was made to implement the program in stages, based on the level of authorization required for each type of intervention, considering 4 phases:

  1. Implementation of interventions that can be completed without requesting a prior opinion from the superintendencies.
  2. Feasibility study for interventions subject to prior authorization and formulation of the authorization request.
  3. Implementation of interventions subject to prior approval and of immediate feasibility.
  4. Implementation of interventions subject to prior approval and complex to implement.

Phase 1: for the preparation of PhD and Visiting spaces (action A3.2), using DICEA’s own resources, in 24 the Multipurpose Room was redeveloped, in which the video-conference system acquired in 23 was positioned, carrying out the following interventions: reorganization of the furniture and historical cabinets, arrangement of display cases for collections; removal of the dividing wall; arrangement of the electrical and network lines; painting.

The design of green areas (action A3.2) was included in a Visiting scientist project (action A2.3) carried out in 24 with the creation of wooden prototypes by students.

Phase 2: a support service was activated for the preliminary design of the interventions envisaged in points A3.1 and A3.2 in order to evaluate in detail the interventions to be implemented in the year 2025. This activity was carried out by the appointed commission and by an external professional. Specifically, the analyses were oriented towards the project and feasibility assessments of the following areas of the Via Marzolo Complex:

  • adaptation of classrooms L, M, N, IP;
  • adaptation of the P28 teaching laboratory and related Master room in the semi-underground rooms;
  • project for the setting up of toilet facilities serving the Pineca Hall in the semi-basement;
  • project for the new layout of the former reception areas of the complex on Via Loredan for their transformation into spaces for PhD students and Visiting Professors;
  • rationalization of spaces behind classroom N for student socialization areas.

The design was oriented towards the architectural survey and material consistencies and the potential for implementing modern smart living and teaching technologies. The activities were also oriented towards the preparation of the Basic Reports for sending the projects to the competent offices.

A Research Grant was also announced (on ICEA’s own funds) to be started at the beginning of 2025 for research activities on digitalization and support for the creation of Digital Twins for the Department’s Buildings as a support activity for the implementation of the project.
